Finding South Holland Residents
Start with the type of fact already known. An exact address belongs in the Cook County Assessor search. A parcel result yields a Property Index Number, called a PIN, that connects the same land across CookViewer, the Property Tax Portal, and the Clerk recording index. A full name, birth date, ZIP, and street details belong in the Illinois voter confirmation screen. Older names may require directories, census schedules, newspapers, or probate indexes.
The South Holland residents directory is a chain of official indexes. Each answers a narrow question. A tax record identifies a parcel and mailing facts, not every occupant. A deed identifies parties to an instrument on a date. Keep the source and search date with each result.
- Keep the original spelling of the name or address.
- Search the Assessor and save the situs address and PIN.
- Compare the parcel in CookViewer and the tax portal.
- Use the PIN or party name in the Clerk recording index.
- Move to voter, court, vital, or historical records as needed.
South Holland Address Records
The Cook County Assessor address search separates house number, direction, street name, unit, and city. The street-name field should omit the suffix. A CAPTCHA is required. The portal also accepts a 14-digit PIN. Its neighborhood route asks for township, neighborhood, and an optional property class.
| Search field | Use | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| House number | Required number | Ranges use advanced search |
| Direction | N, S, E, W, NE, or NW | Keep separate from street name |
| Street name | Required base name | Omit St or Ave |
| Unit | Optional | Several parcels may return |
| City | Required place | Use the situs label |
No basic owner-name search is offered. Find the parcel first. A taxpayer or mailing address may differ from the property and does not prove current residence.

The separate controls make precise address entry important in South Holland's numbered street grid.
South Holland Records Offices
South Holland is a village in Thornton Township and is not the Cook County seat. Its records cross village, county, court, and state systems. The former Recorder of Deeds function moved into the Cook County Clerk on December 7, 2020. Old search terms can therefore lead to the wrong office name.
The Village Clerk keeps minutes, ordinances, resolutions, and local files. County offices hold parcel, deed, election, and vital material. Court matters commonly route through the Sixth Municipal District in Markham.
Mapping South Holland Parcels
CookViewer 3.1 accepts an address, intersection, map click, or 10- or 14-digit PIN. It can compare parcels, measure, show layers, and create a PDF map or report. Archive parcel layers cover 2010 through 2025. Save the active layer and date with a result.

Parcel boundaries and nearby PINs establish land context, not household membership.
- Parcel
- A mapped unit of land with a PIN.
- Situs address
- The parcel's physical location.
- Index
- A finding aid that points to a full record.
- Criss-cross directory
- An old directory arranged by address or phone.
Current South Holland Directory Sources
Official sources resemble limited directories, but each has a different keeper and purpose. Select the roll that answers the question.
| Source | What it confirms | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Assessor roll | Parcel, situs, values, mailing facts | Free with CAPTCHA |
| Tax portal | Five years of bills and exemptions | Free public search |
| Recording index | Parties, document type, dates, PIN | Free index; copies may cost |
| Voter lookup | One registration and polling place | Exact identifiers required |
| Court docket | Public case summary and events | Web summary or terminal |
Commercial sources may merge stale data. Official rolls state their custody and limits, making careful verification possible.
South Holland Deed Trail
The Cook County Clerk recording search connects names and parcels to deeds, mortgages, liens, easements, and plats. Documented fields include PIN, address, grantor, grantee, legal description, document number, type, and date. A grantor transfers an interest; a grantee receives it. Results can show instrument number, execution and recording dates, type, parties, and an image control.
The online real-estate index begins in 1985. Earlier South Holland searches use subdivision tract books at the Clerk's office. The Clerk does not conduct the historical research for a requester. Images and certified copies may carry fees.

A deed supports ownership on a date, but never identifies every occupant.
South Holland Voter Lookup
The Illinois Voter Registration Lookup is an individual confirmation tool, not a street roster. It requires first name, last name, birth date, and five-digit ZIP. After ZIP validation, it asks for street number and a supplied street name. Those fields reduce false matches.

A match confirms registration details for one query, not everyone at the address. Full voter files have statutory purpose and distribution limits.
South Holland Court Records
The Cook County Circuit Court public docket can add a dated legal record. Smart Search accepts a case number or a last-name, first-name query and may match a party, lawyer, judge, or company. Hearing search takes start and end dates. Online results are summaries, not official case files.
Recent documents or older cases may require a public terminal or request. South Holland is served by the Sixth Municipal District in Markham, open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Probate, foreclosure, child protection, sealed, juvenile, and expunged matters may follow other routes or remain unavailable.
Save the case number, role, division, and date. A shared name alone is not a reliable resident match.
South Holland Vital Records
Birth, marriage, civil-union, and death certificates are not open resident rolls. The Cook County Clerk provides local copies, while IDPH provides statewide copies. Requests need event facts, requester details, identification, payment, and the applicable relationship or eligibility.
Historical access is different. Illinois permits inspection through archives or approved libraries for births at least 100 years old, deaths at least 50 years old, and marriages at least 75 years old. Cook County also offers genealogy copies under its own form thresholds.
Vital certificates are not ordinary FOIA records. When eligibility is absent, begin with an obituary, archive index, or directory entry.
South Holland FOIA Requests
The Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, covers many nonexempt public records. It can help with a specific permit, minute, resolution, or village file that is not online. Name the record, address or date range, and desired format. A public body generally has five business days to answer a noncommercial request, subject to a stated extension.
FOIA does not make every file public. Privacy, safety, law-enforcement, and other exemptions may require redaction. Use the Village Clerk for local custody questions.
Lawful use. Use South Holland records for family, property, reconnection, safety, or civic research. Never stalk, harass, intimidate, or harm a person.
South Holland Geography Labels
A record can index the same place as South Holland, Thornton Township, Cook County, Riverdale, or ZIP 60473. These are different systems, not automatic conflicts. The Assessor uses parcel geography, USPS uses delivery geography, and Newberry files confirmed South Holland directory runs under Riverdale.
Preserve the label printed in each source, then add a normalized South Holland note. The numbered grid and roads such as State Street, South Park Avenue, Wausau Avenue, Paxton Avenue, and Woodlawn Avenue also make direction and suffix important. A PIN can bridge records when an address label changes.
Historical South Holland Residents Directory
Newberry lists South Holland beneath Riverdale for 1922 through 1925 and 1928 through 1929. Its 1923 Polk directory has the index line “South Holland, S, 19.5,” a location pointer rather than a person record. The South Suburban Genealogical and Historical Society holds directories, phone books, census records, maps, papers, obituaries, and microfilm.
South Holland Library's lower-level Historical Society room answers year-specific questions. Leads include the South Holland Star Tribune from 1978 through 1982, South End Reporter from 1929 through 1931, a 1926 Thornton atlas, and Sanborn references for 1897 and 1911 through August 1950.
Pair each directory entry with a census, deed, obituary, or probate source. The collection details belong in the South Holland city directory.
South Holland Portals Change
CookViewer 3.1 launched in June 2025 with mobile, Spanish, measure, PDF, and multi-parcel tools. Cook County soon added a weekday property-tax modernization tracker. Live controls may therefore differ from saved instructions.
South Holland also moved permit and license work to Elements Connect. A 2025 village publication reported more than 1,500 permits in the prior year, but no open permit-history index was found. Account modules handle applications and payments, while an anonymous property-maintenance complaint route remains.
A missing web result may point to a counter file, tract book, microfilm roll, protected record, or new interface. Record the search date and say “not located” rather than claiming that a record never existed.
Verifying a South Holland Match
A useful residents directory result should survive a second official source. First write down exactly what the record proves. An Assessor result proves a parcel exists at a stated situs and reports assessment fields. A tax result adds billing, value, exemption, and mailing details. Neither names every person in the home. A deed index identifies parties to a recorded instrument at a point in time. A voter confirmation answers one registration query. A court docket records a public case role, not residence by itself.
Dates do much of the identity work. Compare deed execution and recording dates with the assessment year, tax year, directory edition, court event, or obituary date. A shared name in records decades apart may represent two relatives. Initials, suffixes, alternate surnames, and spelling changes matter. Save the exact name form from each index. If a result lists a company, trustee, estate, or representative, describe that role as printed instead of turning it into a personal claim.
| First finding | Best next check | What agreement adds |
|---|---|---|
| South Holland address | Assessor and CookViewer | Exact situs, PIN, mapped lot, and village context |
| Current parcel PIN | Tax Portal and Clerk CRS | Tax facts and recorded-instrument trail |
| Name in a deed | Prior instrument, probate lead, or dated directory | Role, sequence, and historical connection |
| Name in a voter check | Exact street and parcel context | Registration kept distinct from ownership |
| Directory entry | Census, paper, obituary, deed, or probate index | A second source tied to the same year |
When a portal fails, move to another documented channel. The Clerk holds pre-1985 subdivision tract books and supplies copy routes. The Markham courthouse has terminal and clerk access for available Sixth Municipal District records. South Holland's Village Clerk accepts focused requests for local files. The library, Historical Society room, SSGHS, Newberry, Chicago Public Library, Illinois State Archives, and IRAD provide catalog, reading-room, microfilm, or staff-assisted paths for older sources.
Not every blank is an error. A protected or sealed record may be withheld. A vital certificate may require proof of eligibility. A permit may sit behind an account or require a request. An old address may be cataloged under Riverdale, Thornton Township, Cook County, or a subdivision. State the limited result honestly: “not located in the inspected source” leaves room for a counter file, archive series, different keeper, or later portal update.
South Holland's history explains why collections overlap. Cook County was formed in 1831. Dutch settlers arrived near the Calumet River in 1847, and the village incorporated in 1894. The record trail later absorbed farm maps, township indexes, county instruments, suburban directories, local papers, and web portals. The 1871 Chicago Fire destroyed some early county records, but survival differs by record group. The Fink index recovered some pre-fire marriage information, while IRAD identifies other birth, naturalization, and probate runs. Never claim all early county records were lost.
Modern custody also changes. The Recorder function moved into the County Clerk in 2020. CookViewer 3.1 arrived in 2025, and county tax modernization continues. South Holland's permit service moved online, but no open permit-history browse was found. Save the URL and access date. Verify a live portal before paying for a copy, and use the custodian's published phone number rather than details from an unsolicited notice.
This method turns the South Holland residents directory into a documented trail. It supports family history, estate and heir research, reconnecting with relatives or classmates, checking a seller's public property claim, and learning neighborhood history. It does not justify unwanted contact or an attempt to uncover a protected address. Keep only the details needed for a lawful purpose, and correct a conclusion when a newer official record supplies better evidence.
