Walk a South Holland Street
A street directory search begins with the address exactly as found, then converts it into the formats expected by Cook County systems. Save both versions. South Holland's numbered east-west grid, commonly spanning 154th through the 180th-plus streets, makes direction important. Named roads such as State Street, South Park Avenue, Wausau Avenue, Paxton Avenue, and Woodlawn Avenue also require the correct suffix.
The parcel is the bridge. Once the Assessor returns a PIN, the map can show adjacent legal parcels and the tax portal can show assessment and mailing facts. The same PIN can lead into the Cook County Clerk's deed index. Voter information works differently and confirms only a specific qualified query.
- Enter house number, direction, base street name, unit, and South Holland in the Assessor form.
- Save the exact situs address and 14-digit PIN from the parcel result.
- Open that PIN in CookViewer, inspect adjoining parcels, and record the map layer date.
- Check tax records, then search the Clerk index by PIN, party, document type, or date.
- For an older year, consult a reverse directory, newspaper, atlas, or tract book.
This flow keeps a street-by-street search tied to dated official evidence. A parcel owner, tax recipient, deed party, and listed resident may be four different people.
South Holland Assessor Fields
The Cook County Assessor address search has a strict field design. House number, street name, city, and CAPTCHA are required. Direction is chosen separately. Unit is optional. The instructions say not to include street designations or abbreviations in the street-name field. Its PIN route requires 14 digits, while neighborhood search asks for Thornton Township, a neighborhood choice, and an optional property class.
| Field | Input | South Holland tip |
|---|---|---|
| House number | Required text | Use advanced search for a range |
| Direction | N, S, E, W, NE, or NW | Do not merge it with the name |
| Street name | Required base name | Leave out Street, Avenue, and abbreviations |
| Unit | Optional start or end | Condominiums may produce several parcels |
| City | Required place | Match the situs label |
| PIN | 14 digits | Keep formatted and plain versions |
The Assessor advanced-search screen shows the expanded controls.

The separate controls explain why a preserved original address and a normalized search copy should sit side by side in the research notes.
South Holland PIN as Bridge
A Cook County PIN identifies a parcel more steadily than a postal label. The Assessor and Property Tax Portal use 14 digits. The tax portal displays five validated segments. CookViewer accepts either 10 or 14 digits, with or without dashes. Save the exact value returned, and note whether it identifies a parcel, condominium unit, common parcel, or tax account.
The Property Tax Portal accepts house number, street, city, optional unit, and optional ZIP. It can return five years of original bills, township, class, value, exemptions, lot and building details, tax code, and a mailing address. The mailing field is for tax correspondence. It is not automatic proof that the recipient lives at the situs.
The address-record chain can be written simply: physical address → Assessor parcel → PIN → map and tax facts → Clerk recording index. This is the most reliable spine for the South Holland street directory.
Map South Holland by Parcel
CookViewer 3.1 searches by address, intersection, PIN, or map click. Its tools can select several parcels, compare them, measure a span, display layers, and create a PDF map or report. The service exposes archive parcel layers from 2010 through 2025. The current release observed during research was dated May 28, 2026.
The county GIS page introduces the parcel resources shown below.

The map can establish adjacency and legal parcel shape. It cannot name everyone on a block. Save the layer, archive year, selected PINs, and export date so another person can reproduce the geographic result.
- Parcel
- A legally mapped piece of land with a PIN.
- Situs address
- The physical location recorded for the parcel.
- Plat
- A recorded map that defines lots, blocks, or a subdivision.
- Criss-cross directory
- A historical directory arranged by street or phone instead of only by surname.
South Holland Street Record Coverage
Each address-keyed record has a distinct purpose. The street directory becomes more accurate when claims are limited to what the source actually records.
| Record source | Street evidence | Keeper | Access channel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assessment roll | Situs, PIN, class, value, taxpayer details | Cook County Assessor | Free portal with CAPTCHA |
| Parcel map | Lot shape, adjacent PINs, archived layers | Cook County GIS | Free CookViewer and PDF export |
| Tax portal | Five-year bills, exemptions, mailing facts | Cook County | Free web search |
| Recorded instruments | Deed parties, dates, type, legal description | Cook County Clerk | Online from 1985; older tract books in person |
| Permit or code file | Application, work, inspection, complaint facts | South Holland Community Development | Account portal or specific records request |
| Historical directory | Dated name, address, phone, or household entry | Libraries and archives | Catalog, scan, microfilm, or staff help |
The public voter lookup is not listed as a street roster because Illinois requires one person's name, birth date, ZIP, street number, and selected street. Full computerized voter data is restricted by purpose and application rules.
Deeds Along South Holland Streets
The Cook County Clerk CRS recording search supports PIN, address, grantor, grantee, legal description, document number, date, and type in its documented workflow. A grantor transfers an interest, while a grantee receives it. Index results may show the document number, recording and execution dates, document type, first grantor, other parties, and an image control.
The Clerk's recordings page leads to the deed services pictured here.

The online real-estate index begins in 1985. For earlier ownership, use subdivision tract books at 118 N. Clark Street. They are office-only, organized by subdivision, and the Clerk does not perform the historical search for a requester. Images or certified copies use the applicable fee route.
A deed party address is dated correspondence or instrument data. It does not prove present residence. Follow prior-instrument references backward and compare legal descriptions instead of relying on a repeated street string.
South Holland Permits by Address
Village permits are a separate access door. The Community Development permit page covers categories, file uploads, online payment, and library help. Elements Connect includes Building Permits, Code Complaint, Violation Payment, Business License, Contractor Registration, and Rental License modules. An account is required for most application work.
The Elements Connect screen pictured below is the current entry point.

No open public permit-history index was located. An inspection request may use permit number, permit type, address, and contact details, while an anonymous property-maintenance complaint is available. For a historical permit or code file, ask Community Development or submit a narrow Illinois FOIA request to the Village.
South Holland Living reported more than 1,500 building permits during the prior year in its January and February 2025 issue. That number describes activity, not residents at those addresses.
South Holland Streets Through Time
No authoritative South Holland street-renaming or renumbering timeline was located. Do not invent one when an old address fails. Historical research should hold the year constant, then compare Newberry and South Suburban Genealogical and Historical Society directories, newspapers, atlases, Sanborn maps, deeds, and the original subdivision description.
Newberry files confirmed South Holland directories under Riverdale for 1922 through 1925 and 1928 through 1929. Its digitized 1923 Polk volume contains the suburban index line “South Holland, S, 19.5.” That is a geographic and page clue, not a resident, ZIP, or street number. Open the underlying directory entry before reporting a name.
The 1926 Thornton atlas at SSGHS can help when a parcel trail reaches a farm or early subdivision. Chicago Public Library's Sanborn index identifies South Holland coverage for 1897 and 1911 through August 1950. For a full treatment of the books, use the South Holland city directory collection.
South Holland's Address Layers
South Holland, Thornton Township, Cook County, Riverdale, and ZIP 60473 are separate indexing layers. The Assessor may organize the parcel under Thornton. Newberry may catalog a volume under Riverdale. USPS uses 60473 for delivery. A county recording carries Cook County custody. These labels can all be correct.
Keep the source's original place label and add a separate modern normalization. ZIP geography is not the same as a village boundary, and the confirmed South Holland ZIP should not be used to draw an incorporated line. At an edge address, the county Address Authorization form is only a clue for unincorporated property. Ask the Village or county GIS custodian which process governs.
This geography angle is useful when a street directory gives no result. Change the appropriate township, catalog, or postal field without silently altering the address itself.
South Holland Voter Address Limits
The Illinois voter lookup does not permit browsing everyone along a South Holland street. Its first stage requires a first and last name, birth date, and five-digit ZIP. The second stage requires street number and a dynamically loaded street selection. A result confirms one person's registration and polling facts.
The statewide computerized voter file covers 108 jurisdictions and is generally refreshed nightly, but access is limited to registered political committees or specified statutory purposes. The distributed file omits date of birth and bars commercial solicitation. It is not a substitute for the public individual lookup.
A voter match adds evidence of a name-address link for a defined purpose. It remains distinct from parcel ownership, deed parties, directory listings, utility customers, and actual current occupancy.
South Holland Street Search Fallbacks
Web portals do not cover the entire street record. Pre-1985 deeds require the Clerk's subdivision tract books. Historical household work may require library shelves, microfilm, a staff question, or an archive request. A village permit file may need an account or a focused public-records request. A current voter check needs exact personal identifiers.
- Visit the Clerk Recordings Division for old tract-book work and document copies.
- Ask South Holland Community Development for address assignment, permit, or renumbering records.
- Use South Holland Library and its Historical Society room for local papers and photographs.
- Ask SSGHS about reverse directories, phone books, the Thornton atlas, and obituary cards.
- Use Illinois State Archives or IRAD for county series and historical indexes.
Record what was searched, including the catalog title, year, page, PIN, subdivision, and office response. “Not located in the inspected source” is more accurate than “no record exists.”
South Holland Street Directory Limits
No public South Holland DMV address directory, utility-customer roll, EMS list, or complete occupant roster was located. The Driver's Privacy Protection Act limits motor-vehicle personal information. Vital records have eligibility rules. Court records may be sealed or redacted. Property records can show a mailing address or instrument address that is not the current home address.
The Illinois Address Confidentiality Program provides a substitute address for qualifying survivors and protects specified new state and local records. It currently cannot guarantee confidentiality in property records. Never use GIS, deeds, or tax data to reconstruct a protected address.
Lawful use. Use the South Holland street directory for personal property, family-history, civic, or safety research. Illinois law does not permit stalking, threats, harassment, or intimidation.
Accuracy requires restraint. State that a source shows an owner, taxpayer, voter confirmation, deed party, applicant, or historical listing on a date. Do not turn that limited fact into an unsupported claim about everyone who lives there.
